Glassine...
Glassine is a very thin, smooth, water and air resistant paper. Glassine is grease resistant and used for envelopes, bookbinding, and packaging. Glassine envelopes are also used to carry pharmaceutical as well as coaine and heroin. glassine bags wre once used to package potato chips in the 20th century.
To make glassine, paper pulp is beaten to break down fibers. The pulp is pressed into molds and dried into sheets. The sheets are pressed through hot rollers, also known as calendering, and this makes the fibers lie flat and in the same direction. This process is repeated numerous times.
The basic color of glassine is almost transparent. The color can be changed with dyes or made opaque.

A Little Bit About Jute....
We use use a ton of jute everyday, so here's a few tidbits...
Jute is a long, shiny, soft, 100 percent bio-degradable vegetable fiber, made of mainly plant materials. Jute is one the most affordable natural fibers, and is second only to cotton in amount produced. Jute is the most environmental-friendly fibre, and because it is biodgradable, it is often used as a fertilizer.
Jute has become an eco-friendly alternative to poly and paper bags as polybags are made from petroleum and are not biodegradable and manufacturing paper bags requires a large quantity of wood. Jute is a strong, durable and light fibre. Jute is sound and heat insulated, has a low thermal conduction and is strong and durable, making it a popular choice in home decor.
Jute is used in the making of numerous fabrics such as Hessian cloth, canvas, carpet backing, wall-coverings, upholstery, and jute packing. The coarse end of the plant, jute butts, are used to produce inexpensive cloth, the fine threads of jute can be made in to imitation silk, and jute fibres are being utilized to make pulp and paper. Jute rope has been popular in Japan for use in bondage.
India, the world's largest jute growing country, Pakistan, and China are the largest buyers of jute, while Britain, Spain and Germany import raw jute from Bangladesh.
